What
should I do to prepare for the photo session?
To
photograph you at your best, we recommend the following:
All
clothing should be in the same tonal range-preferably medium to
dark. Because we see lighter areas first, clothing should be darker
to avoid becoming predominant. For high-key photography, you'll
modify this recommendation.
Small children may be dressed in slightly lighter clothing than
adults. You will simply be giving the child equal visual importance.
The parents (larger and darker) will be counter balanced by the
smaller, lighter child.
Avoid white, black, exceptionally bright colors, and bold patterns-except
accents. White, while it's attractive in high key, normally should
be avoided. Because the tonal range of films and papers is so limited,
white and black reproduce with very little detail. Bright colors
(bright yellow, hot pink, etc.) can be overpowering. Patterns (prints,
polka dots, plaids) draw attention to themselves because they are
so busy. Dark, saturated patterns can be quite elegant and almost
anything can work as an accent if it is barely visible.
Wear long sleeves. Because arms are light, they become visually
equal to the face. And, useful as arms are, most clients still want
portraits of their faces.
All clothing should elicit a single mood-either formal or informal.
You
may bring (3) three changes of clothing.
